History

1926

Local 79, headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas, was chartered on November 15, 1926. Having absorbed Local 98, Local 79 now covers all of Arkansas and the northern portion of Louisiana.

1999

On July 1, 1999, Local 79 merged with Local 98. This merger expanded Local 79’s jurisdiction to today include the entirety of Arkansas and the northern portion of Louisiana. This strategic move allowed Local 79 to better serve and strengthen its influence in a broader geographical area.

Today

In recent years, the purchase and renovation of the union hall underscored Local 79’s commitment to educating and training the next generation of elevator professionals. The new hall is now equipped to hold on-site apprenticeship calendars.

Through the National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP), Local 79’s elevator constructors can continue their education throughout the duration of their career. NEIEP’s apprenticeship program is the best in the country, and the continuing education (CE) course offerings reflect NEIEP’s position as the leading education provider in the industry.
